Traveling through New Brunswick

This is not really a "tea party" today.  More a report on the tea things I have seen recently.

This years traveling to New Brunswick and Maine allowed me to find many neat tea things.  So for last week, this week and the next few weeks I will share some with you.   As we travel around, I  am  always on the lookout for tea cups and tea things and other things that might interest you.

While in New Brunswick, we visited a favorite little shop.   My husband's family is from Saint John and some of the little towns along the Saint John River and the Belle Isle River.  While driving on the River Road along the Saint John River in a little place called Central Greenwich we always try to stop at a fairly new gift and antique shop that is located in the old Women's Institute Building.  The WI may still be upstairs I don't know but downstairs is the shop.  It is called Hidden Gems!

       I should add, right here, that one of the places I learned to quilt,  with our cousin Laura, is at that   Women's Institute.  Many Many Many years ago.  Now it houses this special little shop in the lower part of the building.
You can buy cinnamon buns, jellies and other such food.  Also soap, antiques, knitted goods and antiques.  I am going to show you some of what I found and it includes a number of tea related items.
Outside the shop you can see the many "upcycled items" they have for sale.  The owner likes to make art using rusty barbed wire and here is one example... And he used old furniture for other purposes..

 I took the rest of these pictures of items outside the shop because the using of so many "old" items   was inspiring, I thought.

Inside the shop there are a variety of things for sale including handmade soap shown here on a very vintage stove...........

And..............  to the real point of this post.................... lots of tea things......................

 The New Brunswick Tea Company has this interesting display....  And I will show close ups of some of the items.

This was a  little cup and saucer set I saw from The Bell China Company.  I had never heard of them but thought the set was pretty.

 And here is a teapot from Japan made by the Robinson Design Group....  Never heard of them either but doesn't it look like Old Country Roses from Royal Albert!!!

 And I loved them lovely sugar, cream and tray set from Hammersley.  I do love violets!

It is almost too bad they don't make this into a little teashop.  It would be a lovely setting. But I suppose that would be too much to ask.

And here is one last picture.  They have a stream going back the back of the building and it very soothing to stand by it and listen to the running water!

We did enjoy our visit.... and look forward to going back again next year!

Traveling Notes

    In my last blog post I "served up" Blueberry Scones.  That was actually in anticipation of our annual trip north to the land of wild blueberries (the best in my opinion.)  They are always being harvested at the time we are there so we can always find plenty to bring home.  I DID in fact.... a 5 pound box which I was able to separate and pack into 17 one cup freezer bags for future use.... for scones, muffins, and other treats during the year!

     We are now back home from two weeks of traveling in Maine and New Brunswick.  Besides happily visiting friends and family I managed to get to a few flea markets.  I did actually buy a few things for myself and a few things for my shop.  But I also took a LOT of pictures some of which I will share with you today. There will be more as time goes on.
   
    This first group is primarily from two of the flea markets we always go to in Searsport, Maine.

 The first table I found had a variety of tea things.

 I enjoyed seeing them but the prices were a little steep so I only bought the little OCR teapot in the middle to add to my own collection of OCR which is ever expanding.   Here is a closeup.

I also took a closeup picture of the other teapot though I didn't purchase it.  I hope someone else found it to their liking that day.

 Once again I thought of Martha from Martha's Favorites when I found these mustache cups.   Quite a variety I thought.  Since I don't collect them I left them for someone else.

Next I found this Nova Scotia Tartan cup and saucer. It is my favorite of all the Canadian Provincial Tartans.  I forgot to find out the maker of this particular teacup.  I have never been to Nova Scotia but it on my list. 

And finally for this day I saw these pretty Made in Japan items.  A cup (mug?) and a sugar bowl.  

I actually saw lots of non tea items that day as well and took lots of pictures.  My favorite was this bird feeder made out of a glass luncheon set.  I though it was pretty cute.  I have some of these luncheon sets  so may try to make one in the future.  The people that had this on their table make a lot of interesting goodies out of old glassware.  I always like to visit their table to find out what new ideas they have come up with this year.

A Simple Little blueberry tea

Today I am having a simple tea party featuring some blueberry flavored tea and some blue berry scones!  Blueberries always make me think of Maine where we lived for many years.  I particularly love the wild blueberries though they are hard to find in other places.  High bush blueberries have to suffice.

 I chose this pretty little handpainted Colclough cup and saucer because of the pretty blue flowers.

To hold the scones I have this wonderful glass compote with handpainted flowers on the edge.  I really treasure this and it will NEVER see the inside of my shop.

IT was very hard to photograph but here are three pictures of it.  

 This is the closeup of the painting on the border.  It is so dainty.  I love it.

Looking for tea cups at the flea market

I was at our favorite flea market looking for things for my antique shop.   I found some but ended up not buying a single one.  I did however take a lot of pictures.  The following three pictures are of the cups and saucers I saw, that were worth showing.

I have, from time to time found dinnerware sets that featured the lords and ladies.  I have seen them called by different names as well.  And they were made by different manufacturers.   I knew so was not surprised to see all of these available at one table... each one a bit different.  But I imagine you could use all the different ones together without much trouble.

And of course while I was at the flea market I took some pictures for "inspiration."  The next two pictures are of ideas for way to decorate with old stuff...... I thought I would share them with you.

Tea Cups and Wild Animals

This week on Tea Cup Tuesday I am doing something a bit different.  As you all must know by now I run an antique and collectible shop.  One of the big sellers is Tea Cups and other tea related things.  I have a LOT because I buy for myself too.  I have too many to count in my personal collection but a lot more in the shop.

So I thought I would share a few today.  I have been pretty busy lately and decided I wouldn't be able to do a tea party justice.  So this is what I am sharing this week.




 This is a pretty display shelf.  I did have two filled but sold the other one so this is the only  one I have  left.

My husband made this black show case for me.  I use to carry it to shows... so it folds up.  Now it just sits on a shelf and is brimming with tea cups, saucers, creamers and what have you.

These cups and saucers are Fire King.  I bought them from an Amish Lady who said she remembered her mother getting them in cereal boxes.  A similar set with the roses was shown on a tea party last week.

So there you have a lot of the cups and saucers from my shop but by no means all.

We have also had a busy week in our yard................................
Lots of wild visitors.  Our house backs up on to some woods and fields beyond and you never know what critters will pass by.

Here is a Wild Turkey at the Base of the Bird Feeder.

And next we had a raccoon visiting up by the shed.

And finally some deer.  The mom and her two little ones following her every where.  They did a lot of jumping and running.  Just having youthful fun I imagine.  We have a number of apple trees on the property and now that the baby apples have started to appear they show up for some treats.

In the past we have had Bears visit too but don't have any current (thankfully) pictures of them.

A cottage tea party

This week I thought I would feature a couple of tea things that are decorated with cottages.  I have a collection of cottages including a number of David Winter cottages.  So since I love those it was natural to find and purchase some tea things featuring cottages.  So this week here are a couple.

I decided to make my usual favorite Earl Gray and get some pretty little cupcakes from the bakery.

This teacup and saucer are from Royal Albert.... always a favorite of mine.

I love the details of the cottages on this set.

And here is the mark.  There is no name included.

     The teapot is from Arthur Wood and Son and featured a pretty little thatched roof cottage.

 And here is the pretty little plate I chose to hold the cupcakes.  It is also Royal Albert and is called Minuet.   So delicate looking.

And finally today I wanted to show off the vintage tea cozy I bought quite a while ago because it had my initial on it.   Ok, so I probably would have bought it no matter the initial.  I really like it.
