A Saturday Flea Market in January

 I want to thank those folks who signed up as followers of my blog, yesterday, at the Grow Your Blog Event.  It was fun to hear from so many different folks and to read all your comments and emails.  I also enjoyed visiting lots of other blogs that I did not even know about.  Thanks so much to Vicki at

As I mentioned yesterday in my blog, I was going to attend a local flea market. It was sponsored by our local fire department and they hold several during the winter months.  Most of the vendors are regulars but some folks just use it like a yard sale.  You won't usually find high level antiques and collectibles but it pretty much runs the gamut 

The thing about flea markets is you NEVER know what you are going to find.  The first table inside the door sold Polish Potato bread!!!!!   Yummy!    Behind him were a couple of tables of pies, breads and such along with jelly and jam.  (I didn't take a picture of that table.)

 Here is a picture of a typical table of what I call "flea market miscellaneous.  

If you are a collector there are usually opportunities at these sales.  

Here are some examples of the offerings.

 And this person offered a scrapbook filled with vintage post cards.

Are you a doll collector?  There are usually some to be had.

And how about something a bit unusual....  a clothespin holder.  

These were quite popular in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

  I bought this pile of kitchen towels and such from one of the vendors to sell in my shop. I think most are from the 40s because they were certainly typical items from that time period.

These are just a few of things I saw.  You can buy children's and adults clothing, tools, kitchenalia by the "ton".  And pretty much anything else you can imagine. And there is almost always a kitchen type set up for coffee, sodas and snacks.

It is always fun to look for things you have never seen before.  Do you have a favorite thing to look for at a flea market?

Flower Fabric Friday with some Flea Market Fun thrown in!

 Welcome to another Fabric Flower Friday.  This week will be a bit different.  I will show a couple of fabric flowers but mostly I wanted to show some pictures from our favorite flea market in Leesport, PA.  It may be our last visit for the season... or not.... with weather here you just never know.  And the indoor part is always open.

Before I do that, here is what I did with one of the flowers I made last week.  I made this journal, used the word journal from the fabric which I used to make the flower, added some brown felt behind it and then added the flower from the French fabric.  Don't know what I will do with it yet.  But it is ready!

While at the flea market I came upon a couple of fabric flowers which I decided will be featured this week.  It is my blog, I can do that, right?..  LOL

The flowers were probably sold retail somewhere. No telling where they were made but they look to be a quick and easy project if you want to make them.  They are made of painted canvas, glued together with some puffiness under the center and placed on a stick. Each of those petals are separate so you can adjust them.   I then put them in bottles I keep in my kitchen window that also have primitive stars hanging around their necks.  (They also came from the Leesport Flea Market a while ago.) 

These might be cute if you put little faces on them.

And now to the flea market itself.  We went later in the day than normal because the weather was not too great early.  But it got better and better.  

One of the first places I always head at the flea market is to the Old Glory Coffee and Bagle Co.  They have the best coffee and because I go so often they even know some of my favorite mixed coffees.  I buy coffee beans there too.  And my husband and I have been know to share one of her dessert goodies, like the yummy carrot cake. Their other speciality is Bagels!

                               We usually look for items to sell in our shop at this market but this visit was mostly for all the great Veggies and I bought some plants as well.   This first picture shows a couple of new, or fairly new hybrid echinacea.  I bought one of each!

 This next picture was at the same vendor.  I thought everything he has was great looking.  I did buy a Sedum plant that is shown in the lower left hand corner.  It will go up in my rust garden I imagine.

 We enjoyed seeing all the fruit and vegetables in the produce section.  

We bought so much the fridge is now overflowing,  

 So many choices!

 Aren't the cauliflowers pretty.

And there were a LOT of gourds and pumpkins.

These last two pictures were taken at a primitive decor vendor I like to visit at this flea market.

Don't you love the look of dried flowers and baskets. 

So that is the end of this weeks sort of different fabric flower Friday.  I have two flower projects in the works so check back next week.

AND......  while at the flea market I did buy two teacups and saucers that I will be featuring on Tea Cup Tuesday over the next two weeks.  See you then.

Fall means farmer's markets

This past week we managed to get to our favorite flea market in Leesport, Pennsylvania.  We didn't get much for the shop but boy did we have a GOOD time at the farmer's part of the market!  My vegetable bin is full!  We have been having veggies every night and more ahead.

We managed to pick up a few flowers for the garden as well.

Here are some of the pictures I took just to get you in the mood.  If you have a farmer's market in your area and you don't have your own garden, you should make sure you go at least once this fall.  I bet we go again in a week or two.  Pumpkins and squash should be next on our list.

This is one of the plants that came home to our house!

 And when you visit a market where a lot of Mennonite and Amish are vendors you are bound to find some yummy you eat.

After reviewing these pictures, I can't wait to go back again.

Tea Cup Tuesday mixed with some flea market finds.

This week I will just be doing a quick tea cup entry.  My husband and I spent most of last week away from home camping at a Bluegrass Festival.  I did NATURALLY find a few tea cups but not nearly as many as I usually find.  I found other interesting things though and I will share a few here.

I found these tea cups at a flea market in Belleville, Pennsylvania. 

Didn't dare turn them upside down for pictures.  But wanted to show them.  And following the teacups are some sugar and creamers I found at another table.  Mostly it just shows there are tea cups everywhere and all different!

After my disappointment at not finding many cups and saucers I decided to take pics of a few of the other things I found.  I actually went to two different flea markets.  The first is just a regular flea market that is held every Wednesday in Reedsville, PA.  All types of items for sale.
Here are a couple of the pictures of things I saw.

 I always look at Rusty things for my rust garden.  I didn't buy any of these pumps but I thought they were all good ones.

 In this picture you can see some windows, (without glass) that some one has decorated with dried flowers.  I suppose you could just hang them as they are, or put pictures in the different frames.

  Next I found these benches made by a local Amish man.  I bought a couple of them to have for sale in my shop unless I decide I "need" to keep them. 

 And then I found this basket filled with hens and chicks.  I am going to keep that item.  Doesn't it look nice on the little bench.  Maybe I will keep this small one. 

And here is a cupboard also made by the same Amish man.  It is made out of shutters I think.

The next flea market we went to was located in Belleville, Pa. A few miles down the road from Reedsville.
This was a regular flea market but also a farm market.  There was an auction of vegetables, small farm animals and although I didn't see it I imagine there was also an auction of larger animals.

 This market was heavily attended by Amish folks.  They were buying and selling.  There were horse and buggies everywhere there was a free space for them.

One booth had a lot of dried flowers.  I bought my self a large bunch and will find somewhere to display them.  Maybe in the house, maybe in my shop.
  
I met a lovely lady at this market who sells primitive crafts she makes.  She is there every week she said.  She used to have a shop but now just sells at the sales.  I enjoyed talking with her.  She gave me good advice on quilt shops and a place to eat as well.

Another Wednesday, another flea market

Yes, we went to our favorite Wednesday flea market yesterday, in Leesport, PA.  The weather was supposed to be iffy but it turned out to be a beautiful day, sunny and mild temps.  And the place was loaded with dealers so there was lots to see.    Click here to see their homepage.

There were pansies, tulips and other spring flowers everywhere for sale.  So pretty and spring like fresh.  I bought a few little pansies to put in one of my gardens.  I will probably wait another couple of weeks before I buy anything else.  I usually make my big garden purchases around Mother's Day.

I didn't buy a whole lot of other things but enjoyed seeing all the things that were available.  I did see a lot of cups and saucers so I will feature them on Teacup Tuesday.  But here are some of the other things I found.

These little Amish Dolls caught my eye.  This area has a large Amish and also Mennonite population  so it isn't a surprise to find the dolls.

 I thought the use of this buggy to hold some flowers was a clever idea.

 If you need some planters this was the place to be.  I admit it, I bought several!

 Here was one of the table where there were a lot of pretty spring plants.

 

And I did buy some of the veggies.  Always a great selection.

And finally a Mantle.  No fireplace at our house but if we had one, this would be nice.
