Tea for One

A few years ago my husband gifted me with this sweet little tea set..... for those times when I want to sit and have a quiet cup of tea.

It is a Royal Winton Grimwades  7 piece Breakfast Set..... complete with a toast rack.

I have often seen the Royal Winton mark on things and the additional "Grimwades" added to the mark. So today I decided to see what I could learn about it.  This is not the absolute answer but helped me on the way.

I first went to Wikipedia....  and learned the following:

Royal Winton is an English brand of earthenware and fine bone china tableware, made by Grimwades Limited, a Stoke-on-Trent based company founded by Leonard Lumsden Grimwade and his elder brother, Sidney Richard Grimwade, in 1885. 
In 1928, they produced the first of their Chintz pattern designs, for which the company has become famous.

 This set is not a chintz pattern.....  but still lovely I think with the soft mottled green finish.


 I checked out info from various search engines but really this was about the sum total of what I could learn in a quick look.  I may try to see if I have anything in any of my china books.

The set starts with a plate with the little indents for each of the parts....

Next I have added the toast holder in its proper place.............

and then the teapot..........

When I was looking around on ebay and other antique sales sites to see if I could find examples of this I discovered that some of the prices are HIGH, VERY HIGH.  Of course the highest prices are for the Chintz sets that are extremely popular no matter the style.

I never did find this exact set but I did find one in Pink. It was described as "mottled rose" so I believe this one might me "mottled Green."  You never know.

More Fellowship of Flowers

Fellowship of Flowers continues but I have also had time to work on or finish up a few other projects lately.  Since it keeps on snowing and being awfully cold I stay inside and work on fun projects.

A month or more ago I showed you a scarf I was crocheting.

 I have finally finished it.  I was trying to use up some yarn I bought a few years ago.  The basic scarf was regular wool yarn.  At the same time I had bought some decorative yarn, eyelash I think they call it, and I mixed that in a bit.  Also I am making the fringe with that yarn mixed with the last of the wool yarn

.  So when I say it is finished....  well I still want to add more fringe but basically it is done.  I will do that when I have some time watching TV.

On Wednesday of this week Michelle showed us the final flower of the month AND the Feb. project. Wow is all I can say.  It is a beautiful table topper.  I really want to do this one so have to get busy and finish up.  In addition to the flowers there will be 7 bumble bee motifs.

Tea Cup Tuesday, a visit to a flea market

The last Saturday of the winter months here in our area there is a flea market we like to attend.  I showed a few things I found last month.  This month I concentrated  on all of the cups and saucers I found there. I thought they might make a nice Tea Cup Tuesday post. There were quite a few at this sale even considering this isn't an area where I normally find them.


The first group I found was these pretty little Japanese "Pedestal style" cup and saucer sets.  One set even had little legs instead of a pedestal.

 

 Another table had these Royalty items.  The mug was from Charles and Diana's wedding. Nothing real special as they were available in every shop during that time.  The cup and saucer and plate were made by Royal Winton at the time of Queen Elizabeth's coronation.  I used to collect these kind of items and would have purchased the Elizabeth set but have to admit I don't collect them anymore.

 

 One table had a grouping of tea pots.  Just about any style you might have wanted.  Too bad I REALLY don't need anymore.

 

 These three sets are Royal Albert.

 I neglected to check the Marks so can't give you names.  I think the one with the Poinsettia "may" be called Yuletide.  If you know more please add to the comment section.

 

And this set is a design with Holly though I couldn't tell you its real name either.    I spent some time at the Royal Albert site on line but didn't find it either.

 

This final cup and saucer this week is an earlier one from a  Royal Albert flower of the month series.  This is "Holly", number 12 in that series.  From what I can learn it is probably from the 1940s or maybe the 50s.   I loved the detail on this one.

Flowers on Friday

Another week, another flower.  I did finish the flower for last week and have started on the new one for this week.  Next week we will be finding out what our new project will be....  But so far I am keeping up fairly well.  This is the one I finished for this week.  I am working on the next one but
you will have to wait until next week to see it and maybe even the start of the next project.

I mentioned I would have UFO (unfinished object) to show you this week.   This is a table topper I made from a pattern in the magazine  PRIMITIVE QUILTS and PROJECTS (Fall 2013).  It is one of my favorite magazines.  I like to make felt applique projects and it is usually filled with them.
    Notice it is another way to use felt applique besides the flowers I have been doing.

 

 I have put it on a small frame and will be quilting it by hand.  A slower process but better looking for this kind of quilt.

 And finally here is a quick picture to show you some of the icicles on my house.  We are having a bit of melting every day but they ends up as icicles.  Pretty while it lasts I suppose.

But Spring may be near.  We can only hope!!

Tea Cup Tuesday

 This week  I will just be sharing one of my absolute favorite cup and saucer sets.

The flu bug hit and the snow storm hit and hit and hit.....  so I didn't even open my shop for a week.  No point since I didn't think customers would want to come by any way.  Driving was dangerous. Usually I do my Tea Cup Tuesday pictures in my shop.... but not this week.

So I went back into the archives a bit and found this cup and saucer.

 Angela by  Royal Albert (my favorite maker.)

I don't know what the flowers on this set represent for sure however I like to think of them as hydrangeas. I have looked on line but can't find out for sure.  Maybe someone knows.

I love hydrangeas when they are in full bloom or even when they are dried.  Here is a picture  I took up in Gloucester, Ma. last summer.  Hydrangeas love the sea air and the soil in the area.

And here is a quick pic of the hydrangeas I have along side my antique shop.

And hydrangea dries so nicely............

I am showing the cup and saucer set here with a pretty aluminum serving piece.  I sell a lot of aluminum pieces in my shop.  They are easier to keep looking good than silver so can be good idea for places like informal lunches, teas, and even on the patio.

A pretty little surprise inside the cup.

 Snowy Days and Fellowship of Flowers

Since we can't seem to break the back of winter.....  it is getting sort of like the energizer bunny.... just coming and coming and coming.    So I am so thankful I can participate in Michelle's Fellowship of Flowers.

I did the third flower of the month  shown here at the top of  the first two, though I am not crazy about my work.  I am seriously considering changing the black yarn.  I have been trying to ONLY use items in my overwhelming stash so sometimes my choices aren't the greatest.  This time the yarn is too thick.  I will try something different I think, if I can find something I like better.  It won't be too hard to redo I don't think.

The next flower in this series is a daisy and what she has shown us is lovely.  So I will be working on that as soon as I get the felt cut out and supplies gathered.  I think she told us there were 6 flowers in this next set. So we are at the half way point.  I look forward to seeing what she had in mind for us to do with these.

A Valentine Tea Cup Tuesday.

Happy Valentines Day

Here are some things I have pulled together to make a fun Valentines Day Tea Party.

The heart above was something I made in an art class a couple of years ago.

I thought I would use PINK this time, not the more traditional Red and White.   This teapot is part of a set I probably featured awhile back.  There is a sugar and creamer that goes with it. AND they each have copper tea cozies.  For this I just chose to include the tea pot.

The mark on the bottom indicates this was made for Forman Family Inc. by the Hall China Co.  After an internet search I think I have learned that it was a restaurant in NYC somewhere.  If you know add a comment.

  Carnations

 Since I was using the pink theme I found this cup and saucer featuring carnations.  And in my china cabinet in the house I found this Aynsley floral... A carnation.  It is apparently the August flower of the month.  I have one of these little porcelain flowers for all the birthday months in our family.

 AND here is the cup and saucer.  It is made by Royal Tuscan. (According to the mark it is part of the Wedgewood Family of china makers.
