The Leaves are Nearly Gone Now

I can see farther in the distance now thanks to the absence of leaves. But I miss them already and will hope for their speedy return in the Spring.

ARTFUL THURSDAY

One of my favorite paper arts magazine is Somerset Studio and other publications from their publisher Stampington and Company. In one of the recent issues of one of them I came upon a book someone had made using vintage photos that had been altered. I decided I wanted to do the same thing. Since I had several of them for sale in my antique shop I just went out and "bought" them from myself.

Today I am showing you six of the ones I did. But I plan to do more and then bind them into a book using my Bind it All machine from Zutter Innovative Products. In the meantime I am storing them in a neat old cigar box.

So here are my first attempts.

This young lady seems to be quite thoughtful so added a small word taken from a magazine, I think, and then used a very vintage paper for the background and some equally vintage silk ribbon wandering around the edge.

I decide some humor was in order for this serious lady..... So I added a saying "I used to be Snow White but I drifted." Then I gave her a "flower hat" and added some flower stickers as well.
Here is a typically prim lady. The sayings on the picture are "giggle every day" and "adjust your attitude. " I added some yarn as trim around the edges of the pictures and a couple of vintage velvet blossoms for some added color.
This isn't a photo but I liked it. The edging on the picture was already there. I added the flowers.
This fellow had "flair" and so "needed" a butterfly bow tie and some wine in the form of the sign from a wine box.
And here are a couple of cuties in a picture called the Bird Catchers. I thought the purple trim on the top sort of resembled a bird's nest.
AND so that is the first part of my "fun." I am off to work on some different projects now but will get back to these in a couple of weeks I am sure. Just have to find some more pictures. Check back next Thursday to see what I am working on now.

MINI MONDAY

As I promised two Monday's ago, here are pictures of my MAKE for GSOLFOT. I made this for Gail who I know is a VERY busy lady. You are now going to meet Mr. Moore Thyme. He will be there to help her out when she needs more time. At least that is the plan.

And here he is.

In case you are wondering, his face is an old watch face. The basket is filled with more watch faces. His arms and legs are watchbands. Oh, and his tie is made from an earring... no kidding. I had so much fun creating him. I do a lot of altered art so have a good supply of embellishments in my studio. It made this so much easier.

Last week I showed pictures of rooms I need to work on, in my 1/12 scale doll house. I did get a bit done this week though still a lot more to go. I bought rugs, a cabinet, painted the walls and added a wall paper border. My wonderful friend Sally is making a mirror for the room. I still need to finish trim on the door, make curtains, and find a few more things for the walls. But it is getting there.

And it is easier than doing a real room.

My Herb Garden is trying to get thte best of me.............

BEWARE, THERE ARE SOME SCAREY PICTURES TO FOLLOW

This is a VERY embarrassing picture of my herb garden out of control. The weather was lousy for the most part this summer, we did a lot of traveling and I had other things I would rather do so I let this get out of hand. (Those are my excuses and I am sticking to them.) Now I did harvest when I wanted something like chives, thyme, sage and so on. But for some reason I never cut back the herbs I did not harvest. And lots of grassy weeds got in as well. So I have learned my lesson as I tried, yesterday to get it back into some sort of order.

Well I did get a start but I had neglected it for so long, the weeding part, not the harvesting, that It will no doubt take more than one day of work. Here are a couple of pictures of after the major weeding. I still have a lot more work to do. But some may wait until the spring to see what survives and what to replace and add.

The bushy looking herb is Southern Wood, something I like to hang in my closets. It is a great moth preventive and smells so much better than those camphor balls. I harvest some yesterday and will do more today probably. I am so thankful that the weather is good today. Temps should be in mid 60s which means I won't mind spending time out there.

Here are three of the herbs I did harvest yesterday. Parsley, Sage and Southernwood. The parsley is about done for the year. I put it in a glass of water and put it in the refrigerator. From past experience I know this will make it last longer if I change the water often.

The sage is hanging up to dry now and should be ready for Thanksgiving, hope you agree Amanda.

My chives are still doing fine though I pruned them quite a bit. I should be able to get a few more meals from them.

The Southernwood will go up in one of our closets. And I will harvest the rest of it today to hang in another closet

Herb Garden is Calling, Needs Weeding

My herb garden is in dire need of weeding to get ready for winter. I must admit I haven't been out there much lately. Tomorrow I will post before and after pictures.

Artful Thursday

I hope to be able to start showing you some of my art projects on Thursdays.

I have recently joined up with a group that is called Artist Class. For the next few weeks they will present us with templates, pictures and such for inspiration to make our own projects. I know I won't be able to make my projects as fast as they are presented. But I will do them at my own pace.



We were showed a wooden box that was used as a memory box and inspired to make our own. We were supplied with all the art the artist used but I chose to use my own graphics.

I decided to make a memory box of my parents. The outside is made using various fabric, paper and ribbon along with some other embellishments.

The inside pages include a pictures of each of my parents as children. And I included little graphic items to represent their interests. My dad liked to travel, liked music, was in the army signal corps and one took courses on raising chickens. My mom loved gardening, music and her church.

Mini Monday

Last week I said I would talk about and show the make I made for my swap partner in GSOLFOT But I am going to wait another week. That way they can all be posted on the GSOLFOT website first.

So, instead I will share a couple of mini things of mine. Back in January I started building a 1/12 scale doll house but never really got back to it to finish it. Now I am finally starting to furnish it and I have to finish up some curtains, pictures on the wall etc.

The first picture is of the living room. I need a rug, a mirror over the fire place, curtains, pictures on the wall AND a better bookcase. I don't like the one that is in there but it is one I had. I am searching but haven't found what I want yet. So the room looks a bit drab.... but I am thinking about it again anyway.
The next picture is the bathroom. I don't like the slanted back wall so still have to figure out a couple things for the room. AND I know the picture over the tub is crooked. I need to fix that.
I must find a rug and some towels to put on the shelves. But it is coming along.
AND finally here is a project I did a couple of years ago. I got the little kits at the N.A.M.E. convention when it was held out in Pittsburgh. The kits, created by Sue Herber, are done in the Mackenzie Childs style which I really love. I am using them in the bedroom of this house. It is still a mess in there so not ready to show off just yet.

I am going to try to find time to work on that doll house over the next couple of weeks to get the rest of it furnished and decorated. Stay tuned.
