The final Tea Cup Tuesday in August

We have been back from our travels for awhile and things are getting back to normal.  I hope, over the next few weeks, to show some of the tea cups I bought on my trip.  Almost all were purchased at the flea market in Sussex, New Brunswick.  That is a wonderful place to find almost any tea cup you want as I showed you last week.

To begin with I will show you a Canadian Pillow I found in a group shop in Maine....  Maine and New Brunswick are close and the people are as well so it is never a surprise to find things like this.  I thought I would show it just to put you in the mood.

 

I also wanted to show you a little plate I found with the British Columbia tartan.  I don't know what i will do with it but it is a perfect size.  I also am showing some silver plate my husband found.  It is the pattern his mother used when he was growing up.  We are working on a full collection of it. This is a sugar spoon, a jelly server and a cranberry server.

And now to the cup and saucer of the week.  This cup and saucer is made my Regency Bone China. I haven't been able to find out too much about the company but did read that it was formed in 1953.  So it isn't an old company.  But this particular pattern is definitely of an older looking design, whether or not it is.

The pattern has no name that I can find but is obviously Lily of the Valley.

 This second picture looks a bit washed out compared to the actual cup and saucer which is more like the picture above but I wanted you to see the inside of the cup as well.

This is the second lily of the valley tea cup I own. The other on is from Royal Dover China.

    My mother in law loved this flower so the design is special to me.  

I have seen another lily of the valley set by Regency but it has the new mark. And it's pattern  looks different from this one so it is not a copy.  This one is the older mark.  The newer mark has a picture of a man in blue.

TeaCup Tuesday across the border.

Last week I traveled to New Brunswick to visit family and while there we attended a huge flea market in Sussex.
One of the things I always look for there is teacup of course.  Canadians love their tea and they like to drink it in bone china teacups.  SO.... there are always lots of teacups available.  I admit I bought about 10 sets.  I will be showing them in the weeks to come.  But meanwhile I thought I would share pictures of many of the teacups I found that were available for sale!

I didn't get a lot of info on the teacups because there were so many.  Also there were about 900 dealers at this flea market and I would have never been able to see them all if I didn't keep moving.  They weren't all selling teacups that is for sure.  However there were a lot.  I just took some sample pictures!

Tea Cup Tuesday, second in August.

Suddenly August is moving right along.

This week I have a pretty little tea cup to share that I found recently in a group shop.  They wanted too much for it so I didn't buy it but I took a few pictures to share with you.

A couple of weeks ago I showed you a thistle tea cup.  Here is a very different looking thistle tea cup. 
This picture shows how I found it in the shop, stacked on top of another one.  Naturally I took it off and put it on a nearby table to take pictures of it.

 Here it is.  Look closely and you will see that it has a very pale blue background.

It is from Foley China. and is called Glengary Thistle.  This mark was used between 1948 and 1963. Foley was produced by E. Brain and Co. Ltd Foley China Works 1903 to 1963.

The making of a new travel journal

     We are planning a trip soon and I decided I would make myself a travel journal just for the trip.  I found a book in my personal library that I hadn't looked at in a while.  I used it as inspiration although my journal looks nothing like anything in the book.  Rebound    is the name of the book I mentioned.  It gives ideas on making books using all sorts of recycled materials even including potato ship bags and game boards.

Well for my book I went to my scrapbooking papers and found a few things and then just kept adding papers until I had three signatures.  I proceeded to make the book much like I learned in one of Mary Ann Moss's classes.

The cover contains two stickers.  One for the label and another that says  "A journey is best measured by friends rather than miles.  (this is a quote from Tim Cahill..... a travel writer.)

I made the cover bigger than the signatures and added a little panel that had elastic added so I can keep a pen, highlighter and a pencil handy.

 Here is one of the pages.  I added a pretty little envelope to this page.  There are a number of envelopes available throughout the book.  Have to have a place to keep the "souvenirs" and other things I get along the way.

Once the book was complete, I knew I needed to find a box to hold it, other markers, scissors, glue and some of the stickers and things I will need along the way.  I had this nice tea box just waiting for such a project.

 I put the book and pens etc. in the bottom of the box.  Inside the top of the box I added a couple of elastic bands to hold all the stickers etc. in place.  I am quite pleased with the way it turned out!

I will post some pictures once the trip is behind us and the book is full! 

Tea Cup Tuesday

This weeks teacup is perhaps a bit subtle compared to the one I showed last week. 

However I think it is lovely.

I am showing it with a couple of pretty little salt dishes and a bone china bouquet.

I could not find a name for the pattern.  So can't tell you about it.

Leesport rewards me again.....

Last week we managed to get to our favorite flea market in Leesport and while I was supposed to looking for things for my antique shop I OF COURSE was looking for things for my quilting hobby.  This week I found some fabric and a few pattern and idea books.  And this one called Pockets of Hearts really hit my heart!

 Over this past weekend I actually made a couple of projects from the book.

 On the cover you can see the mini quilt I ended up making. 

 Actually, I still have to quilt it but the applique is done.

In addition I made some wood felt pockets and filled them with  flowers.  The dried rose in the pocket on the right is from a bouquet I received from my husband.  I need to hang them up somewhere to enjoy them more.

If you are interested in the book I imagine it may no longer be in print but you might be able to find it on etsy or eBay.  It is published by Vanilla House. 

Where has July gone???

Another Tea Cup Tuesday has arrived.  I have been enjoying all the flowers in my yard so decided to feature another flower from my garden this week.  My Black Eyed Susans  (Rudbeckia for the purists out there) are very abundant this year.

When I was in the shop this week I noticed some dishes that were the color of the flowers and decided to feature them this week.  Normally I show porcelain or bone china cups and saucers but this time I decided to show some old fashioned dinnerware.  You have heard of fiesta but are you aware that Homer Laughlin also produced another set of dishes in the same colors but it is called Riviera.  A different look  that I happen to like.  And because it is a fairly common color I found another set of dishes by Homer Laughlin in the same color way but a different style entirely.  It is called Rhythm.

The creamer and bowl and platter are Rhythm.  The cup and saucer and small plate are Riviera.

 

The plate styles are very different since they aren't round.  The pattern comes in a number of colors as fiesta did so you can mix or match.  We like this style so much that we have our own set although ours is only green. Maybe I will show you all some time.
